DE La Salle head coach Ramil De Jesus seeks to pull off another surprise on Ateneo in their second-round rivalry duel in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
De Jesus wants the Lady Spikers to assert their first-round mastery over the Lady Eagles to boost their chances of getting a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four when they clash anew on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum
“Nakatapat na namin sila nung first round, nagulat sa amin. Sana magulat ulit,” said De Jesus.
But the 11-time UAAP champion coach knows that they are facing a different Lady Eagles, who won 10 straight games since they got defeated in their campaign-opener.
“Alam naman namin since offseason pa kasi talagang makikita mo bawat rotation matatangkad. Medyo malalim din yung bench maraming napapaikot siguro,” De Jesus said. “Kailangan lang namin paghandaan pa ano yung mga dapat iimprove pa sa team.”
The longest-tenured UAAP coach is dealing so much with their rivalry and what’s important for him is keeping their hold of the No. 2 spot with 8-3 win-loss record until the end of the eliminations for a twice-to-beat edge heading into the Final Four.
“Hindi na importante sa akin ngayon kung sino man yung talunin namin, kung sino man yung daanan namin,” De Jesus said. “Importante sa amin yung standing makuha namin yung number two kasi alam ko imposible na yung number one so yung number two yung kinakapitan namin.”
But De Jesus insisted that his wards, bannered by Des Cheng, Michelle Cobb, Aduke Ogunsanya, Lourdes Clemente and Jolina Dela Cruz, have to work on their lapses first as he was not convinced with their 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 win over Adamson on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Sabi ko sa kanila hindi ako satisfied sa nangyari kanina kasi may mga unforced errors na yun nga lalayo tas didikit,” De Jesus said. “Kailangan pag nasa loob sigurado tayo sa sarili natin kung ano yung role natin sa team. Dapat sigurado kung ano yung trabaho, one hundred percent dapat alam niyo kung ano yung role niyo sa court.”
