AT long last, she's back.
La Salle's scoring ace and reigning UAAP women's volleyball MVP Angel Canino made her highly-anticipated return to the volleyball taraflex on Saturday — and in no less than its high-stakes prelims finale versus University of Sto. Tomas.
Canino came off the bench in Set 1 to the roar of La Salle supporters at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, but it only took one attempt for Canino to get to the scoresheets as she was able to put away a power hit off a long set from Julia Coronel.
WATCH:
Canino missed the Lady Spikers' last five matches as she dealt with an undisclosed right arm injury shortly after the Holy Week break earlier this month.
In only eight of 13 matches played prior to the prelims finale, Canino averaged 20.4 points as La Salle's leading scorer.
While La Salle deputy coach Noel Orcullo previously hinted at a semis return for Canino, the all-important stakes may have prompted her earlier comeback.
The winner of La Salle and UST's prelims-ending showdown will secure the No. 2 seed and the last twice-to-beat advantage against the other as both teams are set to meet again in the Final Four.
