Adamson hopes to break seesaw cycle as league hits homestretch

Resilience or inconsistency? Nonetheless, expect the Lady Falcons to continue to fight out of this cycle

ADAMSON still can’t seem to get off the trend of winning after each loss and losing after each win.

Through nine games in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament, the Lady Falcons have settled into a frustrating yet oddly stabilizing rhythm, splitting their results down the middle for a 5-4 record.

It’s a pattern that speaks of both resilience and inconsistency in a team capable of bouncing back, but not quite sustaining momentum.

For head coach JP Yude, though, the cycle is far from something they’re willing to accept as the norm.

“It's not all about na i-aallow namin ‘yung ganung pangyayari. We are trying naman. We are doing our best every time na maka-win streak kami at hindi lang puro ups and downs at win-loss, win-loss,” he said.

The intent is clear: Adamson isn’t content with being reactive as it would rather string wins together to evolve from a team that recovers into one that controls.

Still, Yude finds value in the grind.

“We're trying our best, we’re doing our best naman na maipanalo namin ‘yung mga natitirang games namin for the second round. Satisfied naman ako because every time naman, different challenges sa games, especially kanina,” Yude said.

“It’s always looking lang talaga at the good side on paano nade-develop ‘yung character ng mga bata in addition during the game, especially in the second set on how they respond properly.”

For now, Adamson takes pride in the fact that it doesn’t stay down for long, with losses not snowballing.

“It's a very good thing na dinaraanan namin ‘to. May negative side, may positive side, pero we always look for the good talaga every time sa mga sitwasyon,” Yude added.

Team captain Shaina Nitura echoed the same sentiment and was appreciative of the squad’s ability to reset, but aware that consistency remains the next step.

“Very grateful naman on how my teammates and the coaches respond sa win-loss, win-loss na trend namin. Sinusubukan rin naman namin na gawin na maging consistent to get more wins. Siguro, nagkataon na lang din sa schedule ‘yun. But we'll try our best,” she said.

There’s no panic inside the Adamson camp, for sure, and not with a .500-plus record and a team that refuses to spiral.

“It doesn't matter naman sa amin ‘yun as long as we are playing at our best palagi and ‘yung goal namin nakukuha namin and we're achieving it, we're fine with it," Nitura continued.

But beneath that calm is a quiet urgency, because while the Lady Falcons are satisfied with how they respond after every loss, they know that won’t be enough moving forward.

At some point, the pattern has to break.
