LADY Luck was just smiling upon Adamson on Saturday inside UST Quadricentennial Pavilion, with Shaina Nitura's back-to-back serves hitting the top of the net before falling to become aces for two crucial points in the endgame.
Those fortunate breaks of the game coupled with laser focus all throughout allowed the Lady Falcons to stop Far Eastern University in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 and soar to the Final Four for the first time in three years now in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball.
The last time they reached this stage in Season 85, they went on to capture their first-ever UAAP bronze medal.
Nitura finished with 18 points, 10 receptions, and six digs, but more importantly, made sure her sophomore year would mean more than just numbers by delivering on one of her biggest goals: to bring San Marcelino back to the semifinals.
Frances Mordi also contributed 12 points and eight digs, while Third Tuddao added 10 markers, including the eventual game-winner.
Mission accomplished for Adamson
The Lady Falcons never had to recover from a shaky start, with Nitura and Mordi combining for 10 points in a steady opening set.
Tuddao then came through in the clutch in Set 2, scoring two of the white-and-blue’s last three points in a 3-0 run from a 22-all deadlock to extend the lead.
The third frame followed a similar script, with Tuddao again finishing it off with a quick attack that sealed Adamson’s Final Four return at 9-5, a mark that even gives it a shot at climbing as high as the No. 2 seed.
Gerz Petallo led the Lady Tamaraws with 11 points, while Aly Devosora added nine in a loss that hurt, but did not eliminate them from contention just yet.
