Lady Bulldogs planning championship party for exiting Belen

NATIONAL University has come up and cemented its status as a bonafide powerhouse in UAAP volleyball.
With a plethora of stars led by two-time MVP Bella Belen and two-time best opposite spiker Alyssa Solomon, the Lady Bulldogs have relished each and every second of their reign of sheer dominance.
Adding the sport’s first-ever Grand Slam-winning coach in Creamline’s Sherwin Meneses to the equation just made NU’s winning formula much harder to crack in the oncoming Season 87.

Tigresses have fingers crossed injury bug stops biting them

FROM the highs of a breakthrough finals appearance last year, University of Santo Tomas was already dealt a pair of huge blows before the new UAAP season even started.
The Golden Tigresses lost two of their key wingers in Jonna Perdido (ACL tear) and Xyza Gula (displaced tailbone fracture) amid the team’s busy offseason run.
It leaves the España side two aces down - both of whom were instrumental to a historic Season 86 campaign that just fell ever-so short of crossing the finish line in the championship series to National U.

Lots of questions for Lady Spikers - and Canino is No. 1 answer

WHEN it comes to women’s volleyball, La Salle will always be La Salle.

While the ever-dominant Lady Spikers lost their grip of the crown for the second time in three seasons, backing down from a title fight won’t ever be an option for this program that has long embodied success and longevity at the highest level.

Blue Eagles rebuild is very much on track

FOR the first time since 2007, Ateneo has gone back-to-back seasons without a Final Four appearance.
A much younger Blue Eagles side than in recent years had its fair share of struggles at staying on par with a resurgent UAAP field in the last two seasons.
Ateneo landed a distant fifth-place in Season 86 with a 5-9 record, roughly four games and 10 points behind eventual fourth seed Far Eastern University.
Nonetheless, it was a small yet significant step from their Season 85 campaign where the blue-and-white finished sixth at 4-10.
Two years into his tenure, Brazilian head coach Sergio Veloso’s mission at the helm is to put more (one big) fight onto his pool of youthful talent without having to think too much about how their Ateneo predecessors fared in recent years.

Losing a 19-year-old superstar, her California Academy (CAL)-turned-UE teammates, and longtime mentor Obet Vital all at once was a tough pill to swallow, without a doubt.

Why wait for Dongallo when Maroons can contend now?

JUST about everybody sees next year to be the start of the University of the Philippines’ long-awaited volleyball renaissance with the arrival of Casiey Dongallo and the rest of California Academy (CAL)’s young hotshots.
The Fighting Maroons, however, have already taken the first step in their rebuild a year ago with program director-slash-coach Oliver Almadro taking the helm with the directive from the UP Office of Athletics and Sports Development to follow in the footsteps of the school's now-two-time champion men's basketball team.
Now, it's all a matter of learning their lessons and maybe - just maybe - surprising just about everybody in Season 87.
