NATIONAL University broke into the win column with a thrilling 21-25, 25-19, 23-15, 25-12, 15-9 win over University of the Philippines on Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at Araneta Coliseum.
Jaja Santiago and rookie Jorelle Singh scored 20 points each as the Lady Bulldogs won after two losses.
Myla Pablo added 16 points and Rizza Mandapat chipped in 11 for NU, which needed an hour and 37 minutes to finish the match.
Down two sets, the Lady Bulldogs took a 5-1 lead and easily took the fourth set to force the decider.
It was all NU after that, with Singh ending the match with a huge hit.
Both teams registered five blocks and seven service aces, but UP gave away 36 points through errors. NU had 25 miscues.
Kathy Bersola and Vina Alinas led the way for UP with 16 points apiece, while skipper Nicole Tiamzon added 14 and Angeli Araneta had 11.
The Lady Maroons absorbed their second consecutive loss in the season after a 14-25, 24-26, 20-25, setback to Far Eastern University.
