LA Salle vented its ire on Far Eastern University, although the Lady Spikers had momentary lapses of focus in a 25-17, 27-29, 25-14, 25-9 victory over the Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Spikers, aching to get back on track after a loss to top rival Ateneo Lady Eagles at the end of the first round, got off to a quick start in the second round and took the first set against the Lady Tamaraws in just 23 minutes.
But they faltered in the next, to the dismay of coach Ramil de Jesus.
“Mababaw ’yung kondisyon and mental preparation. Makikita na mo naman na medyo mababa yung focus although nakuha ’yung first set. ’Yung second set dun na lumabas,” De Jesus said.
The Lady Spikers regained composure to finish the match in an hour and 47 minutes, improving their win-loss record to 7-1.
La Salle took an 8-0 lead in the fourth and extended it to 20-6.
Ara Galang scored 17 points, all but one coming from kills, while Cyd Demecillo added 13 markers.
Mika Reyes and Kim Fajardo had 10 points each for La Salle.
“Happy kasi nanalo kami pero marami pa kaming dapat i-improve,” said La Salle setter Fajardo, who also added 18 excellent sets for the Lady Spikers.
Bernadeth Pons scored 18 points, while Remy Palma and Jerrili Malabanan had eight markers each for FEU, which suffered its fifth loss in eight matches.
