LA Salle recovered from a slow start to pull off a 25-23, 24-26, 25-14, 25-17, win over Adamson on Sunday in their opening game in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Spikers narrowly beat the Lady Falcons in the first set and trailed by seven points, 5-12, in the second before they could find their rhythm.
La Salle skipper Ara Galang scored 27 points, while Camille Cruz added 10.
Coach Ramil de Jesus was upset with the disastrous start, but it’s a win and he’ll take it.
“Kung ako ang tatanungin hindi ako masyadong masaya kasi hindi ko inexpect na ganoon ang lalaruin nila,” said De Jesus, who steered La Salle to eight titles.
“Pero importante naman ang resulta.”
La Salle joins early leaders Far Eastern University, defending champion Ateneo and University of Santo Tomas, while Adamson joins opening-day losers University of the Philippines, National University and University of the East.
Amanda Villanueva finished with 16 points, Mylene Paat added 15, and Jessica Galanza chipped in 13 for Adamson.
