FAR Eastern University whipped University of the Philippines, 25-14, 26-24, 25-20, on Sunday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Hard-hitting sophomore Bernadette Pons scored 15 points, while twin towers Remy Palma and Geneveve Casugod added 10 and eight, respectively, to help the Lady Tamaraws to a quick start in the new season.
FEU needed an hour and 24 minutes to take the match and join early leaders Ateneo and University of Santo Tomas.
“Buti nakikita namin ang pinaghihirapan ng mga bata,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos, who noted that while he was pleased with the win, he expects to see even better performances in their next matches.
“Pero kahit ganoon hindi pa rin sapat ‘yun para maipanalo ang lahat ng laro kasi lahat ng teams nagpalakas, hopefully ma-improve pa namin ang defense namin at ang offense,” he said.
UP skipper Nicole Tiamzon scored 12 for the Lady Maroons, who share the lower half of the standings with National University and University of the East.
