FAR Eastern University snapped a two-match skid, evened its record and moved to fourth spot before the holiday break, downing National University 25-23, 26-24, 25-10 on Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Hard-hitting sophomore Bernadeth Pons and rookie Toni Basas scored 15 points apiece as the Lady Tamaraws notched their third win in six matches.
Charlemagne Simborio scored 11 for FEU, which sits behind league-leading La Salle (5-0), defending champion Ateneo (4-0) and Adamson (3-2).
“’Yung practice kasi namin maganda ang performance nila tapos sa game nawawala,” said FEU coach Shaq de los Santos. “’Yung pinag-usapan namin last two days nakita na namin ang resulta ngayon.”
“Ang Christmas ko ngayon masaya kasi every UAAP talo ako pag Christmas kahit noong nasa UST pa ako,” added De los Santos, who handled the UST women’s volleyball team before going to FEU.
Jaja Santiago was the lone bright spot for NU with 19 points from 15 spikes, three blocks and the Lady Buldogs’ only service ace.
NU dropped to fifth spot, tied with University of the Philippines at 2-3. UST has a 1-4 record for seventh spot, while University of the East is eighth (0-5).
