THE Ateneo Lady Eagles will be representing the country in the coming 17th ASEAN University Games in Palembang, Indonesia, necessitating a revision in their schedule of games in the UAAP.
The undefeated reigning champions will be playing its last game in the league this Saturday against University of Santo Tomas (1-2). They won’t see action again until 2015 when they suit up in back-to-back matches on January 10 and 11 against University of the East and arch-rival La Salle, respectively.
The team is set to leave for Indonesia on Sunday where they will be joined by other UAAP athletes who comprise the Philippine team participating in the 13-day event set to kick off on Dec. 9.
The Lady Eagles’ campaign in the University Games will not in effect, affect their title retention bid, according to team manager Tony Boy Liao.
“I don't think it will be a disadvantage for the Lady Eagles because we will have tune up matches with other ational teams which will be very good.”
Volleyball matches in the University Games are scheduled for seven days. But Liao said the duration of the tournament will depend on the number of teams participating and the format to be used by organizers.
“The duration of the ASEAN will depend on how many teams and format,” he said.
