THERE still won’t be any La Salle team when the Shakey’s V-League celebrates its first decade on April 7.
La Salle athletic director Nongnong Calanog confirmed to Spin.ph on Wednesday that La Salle won’t be rejoining V-League for the first conference of its 10th season contrary to rumors that came out shortly after the Lady Spikers won their third straight UAAP women's volleyball title.
"No, the Lady Spikers will not be joining the 10th season of the Shakey’s V-League," said Calanog in a text message.
According to Calanog, the schedule of classes at La Salle falls simultaneously with V-League’s playing calendar.
"The schedule will still overlap our academic calendar. As it is now, they (Lady Spikers) have already missed classes due to the UAAP season, they will be missing more if they play (in the V-league). And the team needs time to recover, lest they get burned out," he said.
La Salle, a three-time V-League champion, last saw action in the league during the 2007 second conference.
The Taft-based school is one of the pioneer teams in the league along with University of Santo Tomas, San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and Far Eastern University.
La Salle women's volleyball team coach Ramil de Jesus refused to comment on the matter.
