ATENEO and Adamson took down separate foes on Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Blue Eagles defeated University of the Philippines, 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, to bounce back from a five-set loss to rival National University last week, improving their win-loss record to 7-4.
Ron Medalla led Ateneo with 21 points off 15 spikes, four service aces and two blocks. John Rivera had an all-around game with 15 points, 24 excellent receptions and 15 digs for Ateneo, which overcame 37 errors.
Chumason Njigha and Gian Glorioso had 14 points each, Tony Koyfman added 12 markers, while Lawrence Magadia had 41 excellent sets.
UP suffered its 10th defeat in 11 matches.
Mark Millette scored 15 and Jerry San Pedro added 11 for UP, which takes on Far Eastern University (8-2) on Sunday next week at the MOA Arena.
Meanwhile, Adamson also improved to a 7-4 card as it fought back from two sets down to beat University of Santo Tomas, 20-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-14, 15-9.
Paolo Pablico led the Falcons with 23 points. Leo Miranda chipped in 17 points and made 15 excellent receptions. George Labang added 15 markers, while Carlo Jimenez had 36 excellent sets and 12 digs.
Adamson tries to clinch at least a playoff for a Final Four berth when the Falcons face the University of the East Warriors (2-8) on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
Wewe Medina led UST with 15 points, Joshua Umandal scored 14 and Jaron Requinton added 13.
The Tigers at 4-7 fight for survival against Ateneo on Wednesday.
