FAR Eastern University stayed unbeaten, defeating University of Santo Tomas, 17-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 15-13, in UAAP Season 81 volleyball tournament on Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Setter Kris Silang, who made 22 excellent sets, delivered the match-clinching point, his dig landing on UST’s floor with the Tiger Spikers unable to react quickly.
Jude Garcia scored 23 points off 18 kills, four blocks and an ace to go with 20 excellent receptions and six digs as FEU notched its fourth straight victory.
John Paul Bugaoan scored 15 and Redi John Paler added 14 points.
“Ang talagang nangyari, trinabaho talaga ng UST. Check talaga nila kami. Medyo na-rattle lang kami kasi ayun ‘yung medyo mahirap talaga,” said FEU head coach Rey Diaz. “Kaya laging reminder ko, mapa-training, mapa-game, ‘Nasaan ‘yung goal natin? Kontento na ba tayo?’ Yun ang lagi ang tanong ko sa kanila.”
FEU eyes its fifth straight win when it plays University of the East (1-2) on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
Umandal led the Tiger Spikers with 20 points. Rookie Jaron Requinton had 16 points, Wewe Medina scored 13 and Jayvee Sumagaysay added 11 markers.
UST dropped to 2-2 win-loss record and will face La Salle (1-3) also on Wednesday.
The Green Spikers earned their first win after three losses, beating University of the Philippines Maroons, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18.
Kieffer Reyes scored 16 and skipper Cris Dumago added 14 for La Salle.
John Mark Millette had 15 points for UP, winless in four games.
The Maroons take on Ateneo (1-2) on Sunday.
