    Sep 2, 2017

HIGH school volleyball in the UAAP found a bigger, better home when Season 80 action kicks off on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

After three years of playing in Adamson University gym in Manil, the UAAP high school tournament decided to transfer to a new venue with the girls’ division being played during Saturday, Sunday and Monday, while the boys’ games will be on Sundays and Wednesdays.

University of Santo Tomas will face University of the Philippines, while Adamson University clashes with University of the East in the opener on Saturday.

“(Our goal) is to give the school communities and their families and friends a better venue to enjoy volleyball,” said NU athletic director Chito Loyzaga.

UAAP sub host National University partnered with Sports Vision for the use of the facilities.

The schedule, however, will intertwine with the ongoing Premier Volleyball League, which is being played during Saturday, Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for the women’s and 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. for the men’s.

The UAAP high school tournament will be played at 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. for the girls’ on Wednesdays and Saturdays and 8:00 a.m. every Sunday, while the boys’ games will be have a quadruple header playdate during Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m. and  12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. matches every Wednesday.

“This is a first. ‘Yun ang pinakamahirap lagi, ‘yung umpisa, but we are looking forward to it. This may not be the best set-up but kailangan lang natin subukan,” said Loyzaga.
