    UAAP braces for huge demand for tickets ahead of DLSU-Ateneo finals rematch

    THIS early, UAAP officials are bracing for a huge demand for tickets after fierce rivals De La Salle and Ateneo arranged a highly anticipated showdown in the women’s volleyball finals beginning on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

    UAAP president Nilo Ocampo of host National University said a banner crowd is once again expected based on the record turnout during the historic match between La Salle and Ateneo at the Mall of Asia Arena early this month as well as in the Final Four matches over the weekend at The Big Dome.

    “We expect around 19,000 again dahil nagtapat ‘yung La Salle at saka Ateneo,” Ocampo said.

    Game One will be at The Big Dome, while Game Two is set on March 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The third and deciding game, if necessary, will be held on March 9 at a venue to be determined.

    Ocampo added that tickets for the finals match-up at The Big Dome could be available as early as Wednesday. Although he has yet to ascertain the ticket prices, the UAAP chief expects it to be a little higher than those for the Final Four games.

    Tickets were prized at P300 at the patron, P200 in the lower box, P120 in the upper box A, P95 in the upper box B, and P60 in the general admission during the Final Four matches at the Araneta Coliseum.

    Ocampo also said that a share of the tickets will also be available to the public as the games have also been drawing fans from non-UAAP schools.

    A second-round double-header on February 9 highlighted by a match between the defending champions Lady Spikers and the Lady Eagles was witnessed by 19,638 fans at the MOA Arena - hands down the biggest crowd to witness a volleyball match in the country.

    The Final Four matches at The Big Dome between La Salle and National University as well as Ateneo against Adamson last Saturday, meanwhile, drew a little over 12,000 spectators.

    The twice-to-beat Lady Spikers took the first finals seat when they defeated fourth-ranked NU, 25-18, 25-23, 25-18. The second-seeded Lady Eagles also didn't need a sudden-death game in dispatching Adamson, 25-23, 25-23, 26-24.
