HONEY Tubino and Arriane Argarin sparkled as Cignal’s stars struggled, helping lift the HD Spikers past PLDT MyDSL, 21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-22, in the Philippine Super Liga on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.
Teammates at University of Perpetual Help, Argarin and Tubino powered the Cignal offense as the former dished out 39 excellent sets and the latter scored on 21 spikes.
"Since high school po kasi magkakilala na kami (ni Argarin) kaya alam na po namin ang galaw ng isa't-isa," said Tubino.
Tubino came away with 23 points for the HD Spikers, although she committed five errors.
Venus Bernal, Cignal’s main offensive weapon, came up with 14 points but that went to waste with her 14 errors.
Danika Gendrauli added 13 points for Cignal, with six miscues.
"Binigay ko lang po 'yung best ko para makatulong sa team," said Tubino.
Cignal now hold a 3-2 win-loss record after the round-robin eliminations.
The top two teams will automatically move up to the semifinals while the remaining squads play in the crossover quarterfinals.
Pau Soriano and Angela Benting had 17 points apiece for PLDT MyDSL, which slid to sixth spot at 1-4.
