SIX UP Lady Maroons led by Isa Molde and Tots Carlos grabbed the chance when the officials set another tryout for the Philippine Under-23 national pool.
UP held its training camp in Thailand and the Lady Maroons missed the first tryouts set by Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. on January 23 and 24
But LVPI held another tryout, and the Lady Maroons and 20 others showed up on Sunday at Letran gym to fight for a spot for the team that will compete in the 3rd Asian Women's Under-23 Volleyball Championship in Vietnam from July 13 to 21.
“Dati kasi gusto kasi namin nila Caloy magtryout pero ngayon na may chance na kami bibigay na namin lahat,” Molde said.
Rosie Rosier, Justine Dorog, Jessma Ramos and Marist Layug also attended the tryouts.
LVPI has yet to set a date for the cut.
“Siyempre, happy kasi matagal ko na talaga gusto mag-tryout. Mas masaya ako kung matanggap ako,” said PSL Collegiate Grand Slam MVP Tots Carlos.
Molde, the PVL Collegiate Conference and Finals MVP Molde, said it was fun playing with UAAP rivals.
“Ang daming malalakas tsaka hindi mo masabi kung sinong papasok doon kasi halos lahat ata ng team, yung UST andon, FEU pero so far okay naman,” Molde said.
Carlos and Molde noted that young players led by high school stars Angel Canino and Alleiah Malaluan of De La Salle Zobel and Imee Hernandez of UST could give the more experienced spikers a tough challenge in the battle for places in the team.
“Na-amaze ako sa mga bata. Mga 15 and 17 years-old pa lang sila pero mataas na agad 'yung level nila,” she said. “Umaangat na talaga 'yung volleyball kasi, for me, mas magaling 'yung batch nila sa batch namin.”
Molde was also happy to reunite with her U-17 teammate Eya Laure and coach Kungfu Reyes.
“Masaya ako kasi nakikita ko yung dati kong teammates noon sila Eya, si coach Kungfu,” she said. “Sobrang saya kasi parang ang saya sa feeling na may kakilala ka doon na uy parang reunion na rin.”
