ATENEO's men's volleyball team will be much taller next season with the entry of foreign player Tony Koyfman.
Expectations are high for the 6-foot-8 Russian-American who will be eligible for Season 79 after undergoing residency. The 22-year-old Koyfman said is ready to take on the challenge.
"I’m going to do my best to make everyone proud and always be an instrument of God," said Koyfman.
Prior to the UAAP, Koyfman already got a taste of Philippine volleyball, having played in the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference last year while he underwent residency for the Katipunan-based spikers.
Koyfman brings added ceiling to the Blue Eagles, who will no longer have finals MVP Ysay Marasigan next year.
Despite Marasigan’s graduation, Koyfman believes the Blue Eagles will remain a formidable team when they go for a three-peat next season.
"Absolutely. I believe we definitely have what it takes to go further," said Koyfman as he braces for a tough offseason buildup. "We’ll do weights, mental conditioning, and overall, pushing myself to adjust to Marck (Espejo) and the rest of the team."
But first, Koyfman will celebrate the title with his teammates.
"It is the most exhilarating feeling ever. I’m so proud of my teammates and it’s definitely one of the greatest times to be here," Koyfman said.
