TONI Basas came up clutch as Far Eastern University recovered from a slight hiccup and beat winless University of Santo Tomas in four sets on Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Tamaraws looked set to score a straight-sets win before the Tigresses extended the match and even led in the fourth, but Basas and Mary Palma came up with the big hits help FEU regain control and seal the victory, 25-22, 25-18, 15-25, 25-23.
FEU evened its win-loss record to 2-2 and handed the Tigresses their third defeat.
Basas had 19 points to lead all scorers, Palma added 12 and Heather Anne Guino-o chipped in with nine.
Three Tigresses scored in double figures, with Mela Tunay leading the way with 16, but UST could not find a way to stop the bleeding.
Cherry Rondina had 14 points and EJ Laure came up with 10 for UST.
