UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas gained a share of second spot as it downed University of the East, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15, in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.

Carmela Tunay led the Tigresses with 14 points from 11 spikes and three blocks, while rookie Ria Meneses chipped in 11 on eight attacks and three blocks.

UST improved its win-loss record to 2-1, joining National University, Ateneo and Far Eastern University in second place.

Ma. Shaya Adorador had 10 markers for UE, which is winless in three outings.
