UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas notched its first win in the 10th Shakey’s V-League First Conference with a straight sets win over La Salle-Dasmarinas Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Tigresses won it, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20, but needed a huge fightback in the third set before completing the victory.
Staring at a 15-19 hole in the third, the Tigresses pounded the Lady Patriots with a 10-1 run capped by a Carmela Tunay block
to seal their win.
Former league MVP and returning as guest player Aiza Maizo finished with 15 points, while Pamela Lastimosa, Maika Ortiz, and Tunay contributed 15, 12 and 11, respectively for the Tigresses.
"Nag je-gel na ang mga guest players ko with the regular players," said UST coach Odjie Mamon. "Si Aiza (Maizo) may magagandang mga shots, si Rhea (Dimaculangan) may magagandang sets."
The Tigresses now have an even 1-1 record after losing their debut game against defending champion Ateneo. They are now in second spot in group A in a tie with their victims.Judy Caballejo was sparingly used by coach Mamon as she’s busy preparing for a coming tournament in Boracay next week along with teammate Maru Banaticla, who didn’t suit up for UST.
