POWERHOUSE Thailand got off to a strong start 2015 Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship, easing past Uzbekistan, 25-14, 25-10, 25-13, on Friday at the Philsports Arena.

Ajcharaporn Kongyot had 18 points as Thais breezed past the Uzbeks, whose assistant coach led believes the Southeast Asian power could make it all the way to the top of tournament following an opening match that lasted for only an hour and a minute.

“They have very good young players. I think the Thailand team will win the championship,” said Uzbekistan assistant coach Svetlana Ashurkova.

Thailand head coach Nataphon Srisamutnak shrugged off the statements of the Uzbekistan assistant coach.

“It’s hard to predict because we haven’t seen other teams like China, Japan, and South Korea,” said Srisamutnak through an interpreter. “But our goal is to make it to the last four.”

Thailand will face South Korea on Sunday in Pool D play.
