BACOLOD Tay Tung High School and Kings’ Montessori continued to dominate their respective groups, scoring third straight victories to inch closer to the semifinals of the Rebisco Volleyball League National Championship Girls 18 and Under on Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Western Visayas champion Bacolod Tay Tung made short work of Leyte National High School (1-2), 25-14, 25-18, to move a win closer from a guaranteed spot in the semifinals from Pool B.

NCR champion Kings’ Montessori bucked a sluggish start before cruising to its third straight win in Pool A, 24-26, 25-21, 25-15, at the expense of University of San Jose Recolletos (1-1) as Rizza Andrea Cruz led the way with 16 points off 10 spikes, four blocks and a pair of service aces.

“Sinabi ko sa kanila na hindi sila naga-adjust doon sa atake ng kalaban kasi kami yung play talaga namin is more on fast play, mababa yung bola tapos sa kalaban matataas,” Kings’ Montessori coach Rogelio Getigan said.

“Pag ganun kasi minsan parang nauuna yung talon nila so ang nangyari chume-check lang yung bola sa kamay nila. Doon sila nafu-frustrate so kadalasan pag ganun naba-block nila, malalaki kami kumpara doon sa kabila.”

Both Bacolod Tay Tung and Kings’ Montessori only have to win one of their two remaining elimination games to qualify for the semifinal round on Friday, when both the championship round and battle for third place will also be played.

Aloha Region Juniors team of Hawaii and Holy Rosary College also stayed unbeaten in two games to grab the second seed of Pool A and B, respectively.

Madisyn Beirne provided the spark for the Hawaii-based spikers with nine hits in a 25-18, 25-21 victory over Cagayan de Oro National High School (1-2).

Holy Rosary College (2-0), on the other hand, used a rousing second set to take down Sarawak of Malaysia (1-2), 25-18, 25-8, and keep its hold of solo second place in Pool B.
