BACOLOD Tay Tung High School has surpassed its previous finish of fifth by making the Rebisco Volleyball League semifinals, but coach Ian Macariola is confident his team has what it takes to go all th way to the top.
The Bacolod spikers swept their five group matches capped by a 25-20, 23-25, 25-23 victory over New Zealand’s Z-Air Maori on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
“Gusto kong makuha yung national championship ng Rebisco. Gusto ko makatikim n amanalo rin sila ng ganitong laro,” said Macariola.
Bacolod Tay Tung plays a knockout semifinal on Friday at 10 a.m. against Pool A second placer Aloha Region Juniors team of Hawaii, which lost to top seed Kings’ Montessori, 28-26, 18-25, 20-25 at the end of the preliminaries.
Macariola is unfazed.
“Siguro sa speed na lang, sa speed kami lalaban,” the Bacolod Tay Tung coach said.
“Siyempre gusto nilang lahat na manalo maya kumpiyansa ako na makukuha namin ito.”
Regardless of the result, Macariola is just grateful for the RVL for giving teams such as Bacolod Tay Tung a chance to battle some of the best teams in the country.
“Malaking tulong, malaking exposure sa edad nila. Sa mga edad na players namin talagang pagbalik doon sa bacolod talagang expose na at hindi na matatakot sa nilalaro,” he said.
