SYSTEMA regrouped just in time to end its winless run in the men's division of the Philippine Superliga with a 25-21, 24-26, 17-25, 25-17, 15-7 victory over Maybank at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City on Wednesday.
Chris Macasaet, AJ Pareja, Sylvester Honrade and Angelo Espiritu played big for the Active Spikers, who fought off a determined Maybank run in the fourth set and take an 8-3 lead in the decider.
The Tigers inched closer, 7-10, but Systema scored three consecutive points and Maybank shot themselves in the foot with two errors to enable the Active Spikers to post their first win in three games.
Macasaet and Pareja finished with 17 points apiece while Honrade added 15 and Espiritu contributed 12 for Systema.
"Nawawala kasi 'yung focus nila kaya natalo kami sa third set," said Systema coach Kim Rebong. "Ang sabi ko lang sa kanila mag-enjoy sila sa laro at mag-communicate."
Jasper Adorador came away with 17 points while Ivan Bacolod and Bin Mohd Ali Hamzah added 12 and 10, respectively, for Maybank, which remained winless in two games.
