CYD Demecillo delivered quality plays in the final three sets of Game One, helping put De La Salle on the cusp of another title in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
Determined to provide the spark off the bench, Demecillo came up with eight crucial points and helped the Lady Archers’ pull away in the final set on the way to the victory in the opener of the best-of-three series.
“Hindi naman sa kulang ’yung team, kailangan ko pa dagdagan kung ano ’yung kulang,” said Demecillo, still trying to catch her breath while being interviewed by Spin.ph moments after La Salle beat Ateneo, 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-6.
Demecillo took a spot in the lineup with a struggling Wensh Tiu scoring only seven points as she uncorked consecutive kills that led La Salle to a 9-5 lead in the fourth set.
La Salle’s lead players Ara Galang, Abigail Marano, and Michelle Gumabao took it from there as they took the fifth set rather easily after a four tight sets.
Demecillo admitted that finals jitters became a factor in the first two sets.
“Medyo nag-aadjust pa kami sa court. Pero nagkaroon na kami ng composure kaya nagawa na naming mahabol,” Demecillo said.
