IMUS, Cavite — University of the Philippines-UAI defeated Cocolife, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-23, in the classification phase of the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference on Tuesday at the Imus Sports Center.
Isa Molde had 17 points, Marian Buitre added 10, Abilaine Goc chipped in nine and Jesma Ramos and skipper Ayel Estrañero each had seven markers for the Lady Maroons.
“Cocolife is a good team they have a lot of experienced players so that was a good challenge I hope we will improve and probably win against the next game,” said UP-UAI coach Godfrey Okumu.
UP-UAI will face Foton in the battle for seventh on Thursday.
“We will try to approach it the same way, with a lot of concentration and we will try to serve well because our passing is up to date I cannot complain,” said Okumu.
UP-UAI dominated the match in attacks, 52-26 and had 11 service aces against four by Cocolife.
Estrañero registered more excellent sets than her counterpart Iona Yongco, 35-11, in the one hour and 47-minute match.
Justine Tiu and Ma. Cecilia Bangad scored six points apiece for Cocolife, which will face University of the East-Cherrylume in the battle for ninth place.
