United VC improved to 4-3 win-lose record at fourth place ending its first round on a high note before facing F2 Logistics (5-0) in the second round on Thursday next week.
“PLDT, us and Cignal we’re in the mix of third, fourth and fifth places. This win was very important even in the number of sets. We don’t want to find ourselves after the second round, we’re at no. 5 and just a game or even a point and set from no. 4," said UVC head coach Joshua Ylaya.
“The biggest hurdle we have is ourselves, the mental aspect of the game," he added. "Let’s not give the the opportunity to PLDT to get their momentum and let’s not put ourselves in the situation wherein we’re 21-22, 21-23. Nakakatuwa na they responded well.”
Coming off a loss to Petron last Tuesday, United VC needed to recover from a second set loss and edge PLDT in a tight third set encounter before pulling away in the fourth, where UVC had an 18-10 start and never looked back to get the win.
