CHERRYLUME will carry University of the East as it parades its women’s volleyball team in the Philippine Super Liga.
Cherrylume team owner Elmer Ngo said the company decided to join the country’s premier club team competition to give the Lady Warriors the exposure it needs in preparation for the next season of the UAAP.
Ngo said Cherrylume plans to field a team in the All-Filipino Cup tournament and give UE players equal exposure in the PSL as the Lady Warriors begin their build-up for the UAAP Season 80.
“At least, ‘yung mga bata, magkakaroon sila ng experience na makalaro ng commercial league,” said Ngo. “‘Yung confidence level nila, medyo tataas. Kaya sabi ko sa coaching staff, baka puwedeng walang bangko, basta ilaro lahat.”
It is Cherrylume’s first foray into volleyball but has been supporting other UE teams in men’s and women’s basketball, which recently placed second in the Rexona women’s basketball tournament.
“Basta sa akin, nung nagsimula ako diyan, tulong sa eskwela ‘yun,” said Ngo.
The Cherrylume women’s volleyball roster has Judith Abil, Lhara May Clavano, Mariella Gabarda, Mary Ann Mendrez, Mialyn Manabat, Juliet Catindig, Seth Rodriguez, Zilfa Geline Olarve, Jana Katrina Sta. Maria, Ma. Erika Lopez, Camille Victoria, Ramcel Joyce Santos, Laizah Ann Bendong, and Dana Alyssa Disquitado.
The team will be coached by Lerma Giron, with Melvin Reyes as team manager.
