RC Cola Army scores its third win in as many matches and kept New San Jose Builders winless, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15, on tuesday Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna on Tuesday.
Jovelyn Gonzaga scored 14 points on 10 hits, three service aces and a block for the Lady Troopers, whotook solo lead at 3-0.
The Victorias absorbed their third loss in as many outings.
Rachel Anne Daquis, last year’s All Filipino MVP, added 12 markers for Army, while Honey Royse Tubino chipped in 11.
"It was a job well done. We took it easy early on so I told the girls that we should not count San Jose Builders out. They are young and aggressive. Fortunately, they responded and came up strong in the second and third sets," said RC Cola-Army coach Kungfu Reyes.
The Victorias started fine and even led, 6-3, and managed to keep pace with the Troopers at 11-all.
But the three-time champion Lady Troopers were simply too strong and built a huge 21-13 lead and never looked back.
"The first set dictated the tempo of the game," Reyes said. "We gained a lot of confidence after surviving their fight back in the first set, giving us an easy time in the next two sets."
Lourdes Clemente and Jamela Suyat combined for 16 points for New San Jose Builders.
