CIGNAL boosted its semifinal chances as it turned back RC Cola Air Force, 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-16, 16-14, on Thursday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The HD Lady Spikers snapped a four-game skid as Lindsay Stalzer exploded with 30 points, while Sarah Ammerman had 23 markers.
Abi Praca also had 11, skipper Honey Royse Tubino added nine and Cherry Vivas chipped in seven for the HD Lady Spikers, who improved to a 4-5 card at fourth spot.
Cignal, however, is still in a must-win situation against Foton on Wednesday.
Petron, Generika and RC Cola had earlier secured semifinal berths.
“Everytime na natatalo kami I always tell my players not to lose hope,” said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar. “Sa lahat ng talo namin doon kami humuhugot.”
“I told them, ‘Kapag natatalo ka iiyak ka na lang ba? Hindi ka ba tatayo at lalaban?’” added the veteran mentor.
The HD Lady Spikers dug themselves out of a 10-14 hole in the fifth set with Stalzer and Ammerman scoring and the RC Cola Air Force giving them two points on errors.
Ammerman scored on an off the block spike and Tubino sealed the win after two hours and 19 minutes.
Emily Brown had 26 points for RC Cola Air Force, while Joy Cases and Iari Yongco added 12 and 11, respectively.
