CIGNAL took advantage of the early exit of Foton import Irina Tarasova to score an easy 27-25, 25-14, 25-21 win on Friday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Lindsay Stalzer scored 23 points and Sarah Ammerman had 15 points as the HD Lady Spikers improved their win-loss record to 3-1 and tightened their grip on second spot behind unbeaten Petron.
Tarasova left in the first set due to stiffness in her neck and never returned.
"Nag-capitalize lang kami noong nawala sa game 'yung import," said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar.
"Swerte lang kami kasi nasa amin ang breaks of the game. Hindi ko naman ine-expect na ganito kadali ang laro kasi lahat naman ng teams makakalakas," he added.
Acaylar was also pleased to see the HD Spikers regain their confidence after being beaten in three sets by Petron.
"I'm very happy with our win kasi naman after our loss to Petron I was really sad, at least now I am grateful for our win.”
Elena Tarasova had 14 points, while Ivy Remulla added 12 for the Tornadoes, winless in four games.
