DEFENDING champion Petron demolished Foton, 25-20, 25-13, 25-21, spoiling Dindin Santiago-Manabat’s return in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan.
Stephanie Niemer scored 17 on 11 attacks, five aces and a block, while Katherine Bell delivered 14 hits from 11 spikes and three blocks as the Blaze Spikers recorded their eighth win in as many matches.
Rhea Dimaculangan had 27 excellent sets on top of nine digs and two points as Petron also spoiled the debut of Foton’s Spanish import Milagros Collar.
"For us, mas naka-focus kami sa ginagawa namin sa court, not necessarily sa gagawin ng kalaban," said Petron head coach ShaqDelos Santos.
“We know na malaking tulong sa kanila si Dindin and kilala din ng mga imports namin si Collar. I think medyo nag-aadjust pa rin 'yung Foton, so medyo may advantage kami doon."
Santiago-Manabat rejoined the Tornadoes after a stint in the Japan league, while Collar was brought in to replace Selime Ilyasoglu of Turkey.
The Tornadoes, however, could not stop the skid and suffered their seventh straight loss.
Petron committed only 13 errors, while Foton had 25.
Collar and Courtney Felinski had 12 points each, Mina Aganon added 10 markers, while Santiago-Manabat only had three hits.
Foton (1-7), faces PLDT (4-4) on Thursday.
The Blaze Spikers take on Cignal HD Spikers (4-3) on Saturday.
