PETRON is off to a strong start, downing Generika, 25-18, 25-24, 25-14, on Saturday in the opening match of the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan.
American import Stephanie Niemer led the way with 18 points from 15 kills and three aces, while skipper Ces Molona and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas added 10 markers apiece for the Tri-Activ Spikers.
"Sobrang thankful to God kasi binigyan niya kami ng unang panalo, happy kami sa nilaro ng team kasi nag perform lahat hopefully it continues because it's a long league," said Petron coach Shaq de los Santos, who took over from former Coach of the Year George Pascua.
De los Santos admitted adjusting plays with the imports is not easy but he was pleased with their first competitive match.
Serena Warner, the other Petron import, contributed nine points.
"Hindi pa namin totally nakikita kasi kikilalanin pa namin sila pero alam namin na may ilalabas pa na skills ang imports pero kanina all out na sila," he added.
American reinforcement Darlene Ramdin led Generika with 15 points, while while Ukranian import Polina Liutikova and Ria Meneses chipped in nine markers apiece for the Life Savers.
