DEFENDING champion Petron ripped Generika-Ayala, 25-23, 25-13, 25-21, on Tuesday for its 12th win in a row in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Arena in San Juan.
Stephanie Niemer unloaded 19 points with 18 coming from spikes and made 13 digs.
Mika Reyes became the first local to outscore at least one of their reinforcements with 14 points from 11 attacks and three service.
Katherine Bell of the US added 12 markers for the Blaze Spikers, two wins shy of sweeping the preliminary round.
Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos insisted the victory was much tougher than the scoreline suggests.
“Maganda yung game nila and talagang willing din silang maipanalo yung every set. That time naman nagstruggle din kami sa passing namin. I think yun yung naging problem namin,” Delos Santos said.
Petron is already assured of twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals and just a win shy of tying the club’s 13-0 record in the All Filipino Conference 2015.
The Blaze Spikers battle the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors (2-9) on Thursday.
Fiola Ceballos scored 11 and Thailand’s Kanjana Kuthaisong added 10 for the Lifesavers, who dropped to 4-8.
The Lifesavers were without middle blocker Ria Meneses, who suffered an ankle injury in their match against United Volleyball Club last week.
Generika Ayala will face F2 Logistics (8-3) next week.
