IMUS City — After five outings, Smart remained winless in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix but Giga Hitters import Gyselle de la Caridad Silva earned the respect of Generika-Ayala coach Sherwin Meneses.

It was another frustrating game for Smart after a, 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 11-25, loss to Generika-Ayala on Tuesday at Imus Sports Center.

Silva’s conference-high 35 points went down the drain but her efforts didn’t go unnoticed.

“Sobrang galing niya, sobrang lakas niya. Depensa o opensa grabe siya,” said Meneses.

Although Meneses talked to his wards for them not to be intimidated by the Cuban national team member, still Silva exceeded his expectations.

“Sabi ko sa kanila, tao lang ‘yan,” he said.

The rookie PSL mentor, however, was just glad that his wards, especially the locals, stepped up.

Imports Darlene Ramdin from Trinidad and Tobago and Symone Hayden of the United States led the scoring parade with 26 and 21 points, respectively, but the team got an enough support from Ria Meneses with 16 markers and Angeli Araneta with 11.

“Gumana ang almost lahat ng players namin and ‘yun naman ang maganda,” said Meneses. “Syempre kapag may locals’ support ka mas malakas kang manalo.”
