SISI Rondina didn’t stop fighting for Petron until she accomplished the result she wanted.

“Titigil lang ako kapag tapos na yung game, bale ganun nalang yung attitude,” said Rondina after leading Petron with 22 points for a 26-28, 27-29, 25-19, 25-20, 15-6 comeback win over F2 Logistics last Thursday in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.

The University of Santo Tomas standout, who missed the first round of the rivalry battle where her team lost in four sets, struggled to score in the first two sets along with her other teammates and fell on the brink of getting by the Cargo Movers.

But Rondina never gave up until she found her groove in the third set to avoid getting swept.

“Kasi hindi kasi lahat kami maganda yung gising, hindi rin lahat makakapaglaro ng maayos, sabi nga ni coach 100 percent kailangan ibigay mo lahat,” said the reigning UAAP MVP.

“Walang magre-relax kasi sa isang game tatlong set o limang set doon lang tayo titigil as long as hindi pa sila makaabot doon, maglaro lang,” she added.

Rondina’s never-give-up attitude also sparked her other teammates Ces Molina, Bernadeth Pons, Mika Reyes, Rhea Dimaculangan and Denden Lazaro convincingly winning the fourth frame and dominating the decider, where the Blaze Spikers waxed hot with a 10-0 start.

“Sobrang laking bagay kasi alam naman natin kung paano maglaro si Sisi e. Tapos yung energy pa na binibigay niya sa team, sobrang laking bagay niya talaga sa Petron,” said Pons on Rondina.

Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos couldn’t be more proud on how his wards displayed the heart of a champion, especially for Rondina.

“Tawag ko nga dyan spark plug eh: yan yung talagang sinalpak mo bumubuhay talaga sa team namin,” said Delos Santos. “Mas nakita namin yung improvement niya, ngayon ang laki ng improvement niya. Hopefully, magtuloy tuloy.”

As its perseverance and composure worked wonders, Petron is now at the No.1 spot with an improved 12-1 win-loss record and has one last preliminary match against fourth placer Foton (7-5) on Saturday at the Corpus Christi Gym in Cagayan De Oro.

The Blaze Spikers could end up at No.1 or No.2 heading into the knockout quarterfinals, depending on their final standings and the Cargo Movers’ as a tie might happen, which will be broken through quotient.

But for Rondina, regardless if facing eight placer Marinerang Pilipina or No.7 Sta. Lucia, she will provide the same intensity and same spark.

“Same pa rin, maglaro lang. Kailangan lang andun yung willingness to win, willingness to learn, lahat,” Rondina said.
