PETRON coach Shaq delos Santos accepted their Game One loss but bared that the team has filed a formal complaint regarding the challenge result that changed the complexion of the game against Foton in the opener of their best-of-three Finals series of the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix.
The Tri-Activ Spikers were on top, 8-6, in the fifth set before Ces Molina's attack went wide. Petron called for a block touch challenge, but it was unsuccessful and they would only score a point the rest of the way in losing the finals opener, 25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 17-25, 9-15.
Delos Santos believed that if only the challenge was successful, the outcome would have been different.
"'Yun ang pinakaimportante sa amin (that play), tingin ko check ball talaga pero kasi kahit ano namang sabihin namin and na-prove namin check ball siya," he said. "Meron kaming complain letter na pinasa. Hopefully in God's will, magkaroon ng magandang result."
"Exactly 'yung score dun that time, 8-6, so kung naging favor magiging 9-6 siya ang laki ng difference unlike nung 8-7," he added. "Hindi naman natin masasabi talaga pero syempre para sa amin, ang laking [bagay] kasi nag-start doon yung pag-collapse. Nawala yung laro namin at focus so kaya nag-complain din kami talaga sa taas."
But the veteran mentor, who was calm during the post-game interview, immediately shifted his focus for Game Two set on Saturday.
"Para sa amin, ako ah, in-expect ko talagang magiging dikdikan kasi syempre kumbaga third time na namin nagtapat. Alam naman namin din 'yung quality din ng Foton," he said. "So I think 'yung breaks of the game lang, hindi namin nakuha 'yung third and fourth. 'Yung fifth set, sobrang nanghihinayang kami kasi ganda ng start namin and then sobrang medyo may hindi magandang nangyari."
"Basta laro lang ulit kami ng best namin. 'Yun lang naman lagi tapos kailangan ma-enjoy namin ginagawa namin," he added.
