FOTON made short work of an Iriga squad missing Grethcel Soltones, 25-10, 25-23, 25-19, on Tuesday, staying unscathed in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan.
Serbian import Sara Klisura and skipper Jaja Santiago combined for 23 points as the Tornadoes scored their fourth straight win.
Soltones was slapped with a one-year suspension and a P50,000 fine after playing in the Premier Volleyball League All-Star on October 29.
Ivy Perez added eight markers, Maika Ortiz scored seven, CJ Rosario chipped in six, while Dragana Perunicic of Montenegro had four points.
“I'm very happy these local players finish serious, serious plays, serious finish. Maybe two to three mistakes, but it's okay,” said Foton coach Moro Branislav.
It was a close contest in attacks, 35-32, but Foton had more service aces, 11-5, and had seven total rejections while Iriga was zero at the net.
“It's normal maybe, I like the win. I like winning every match. This season is very difficult. Very strong teams, Petron and Cignal. This moment, Sta Lucia,” he said.
“You'll see this is before Generika's peak, maybe they will play in the finals, maybe it's coming before and after finals. Very good PSL league. Very good Philippine volleyball. Every year, Philippine volleyball goes up,” he added.
Serbian reinforcement Tamara Kmezic finished with 17 points for Iriga, while Japan’s Saam Miyagawa added 11.
The Oragons dropped to 1-1.
