PETRON leaned on Brazilian import Rupia Inck and its three local stars to defeat RC Cola Air Force, 25-23, 25-27, 25-15, 25-13, in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.
Inck came up with 21 markers, scattered from 16 hits, three blocks and two service aces in the win that came as a fitting follow-up to the Blaze Spikers' victory over previously unbeaten Cignal.
Rachel Anne Daquis also had 16 points, Dindin Santigao-Manabat added 11 and Abi Marano chipped in 10 for Petron, which now hold a 5-2 (win-loss) card for a share of second spot with the HD Spikers.
“Nakaka-adjust na especially si Rupia kasi hindi pa nakaka-jell masyado eh, first time niya sa international league,” said Petron coach George Pascua. “’Yung skills kasi given na, kailangan (lang) united pa sila.
“Importante kahit mahina ang team basta buo, matibay.”
Petron rained 10 service aces on RC Cola-Air Force which only had one. The reigning champion was also solid on defense as it registered more digs (35-28), had better setting (25-16) and handled the first ball effectively (35-28).
Puerto Rican import Lynda Morales had 20 points for RC Cola-Air Force, while Sara McClinton from Omaha, Nebraska added 15 for the Raiders, who absorbed their fifth consecutive loss an an opening victory.
