THE Philippine Super Liga opens to tournaments just days apart, with the All-Filipino Conference firing off on Oct. 30 and the Collegiate Grand Slam starting on Nov. 3.
The AFC opens with Smart facing Sta. Lucia at 2 p.m., Petron against Cocolife at 4 p.m. and F2 Logistics opposite Cignal at 6 p.m.
“Lahat ng team kailangan irespeto,” said Cignal coach Edgar Barroga. “But we still consider Petron and F2 Logistics as the teams to beat.”
Petron assistant coach Ian Fernandez believes Smart will give teams a run for their money.
The Giga Hitters tapped Roger Gorayeb to call the shots for the team featuring Grethcel Soltones, Aiko Urdas, Jerrili Malabanan and Jasmin Nabor.
“Lahat naman nag-eensayo pero sa tingin ko si coach Roger ang mahirap talunin ngayon,” said Fernandez.
But for Gorayeb, who’s making his return to the PSL after five years, stressed that all teams must be taken seriously.
“Lahat naman ‘yan team to beat naman ‘yan,” he said. “Sa salitang Tagalog, wala kang memenosin dyan.”
Sta. Lucia, Generika-Ayala, Cignal, Cocolife and Foton complete the cast in the All-Filipino Conference.
The collegiate tournament, meanwhile, will have Saturday-only playdates.
University of the Philippines faces University of the East at 12 p.m. in the opener followed by Colegio San Agustin - Biñan against University of Santo Tomas at 2 p.m.
De La Salle Lipa and Far Eastern University will also see action in the CGS.
