Rejigged Petron proves championship mettle with five-set win over Cignal in Superliga

PETRON bolstered its championship aspirations by beating Cignal, 18-25, 26-24, 14-25, 25-20, 15-12, in the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.

Ces Molina and Mela Tunay finished with 15 and 10 points, respectively, for the rejigged Blaze Spikers, who bagged their second win in as many outings to take the solo lead in the tournament.

But it was former La Salle star Mika Reyes who delivered the goods in the crucial stretch for Petron, finishing with nine points.

Jovelyn Gonzaga tallied for 23 points while Honey Royse Tubino chipped in 19 kills for 21 points, but couldn't rescue the HD Spikers from absorbing their first loss.
