RC Cola Army moved into the last four of the Super Liga Invitationals unbeaten, eliminating Grand Prix champion Foton, 25-21, 25-17, 25-17, on Tuesday at Imus Sports Complex.
The Lady Troopers scored their fourth victory in as many matches, while the Toplander bowed out of the tournament with a 1-3 win-loss record.
Army star Jovelyn Gonzaga led all scorers with 22 points on 18 spikes, three blocks and one service ace.
“Jovelyn she’s very consistent mula first game hanggang ngayon. Nagkakamali pero naibabalik niya ang laro niya,” said Lady Troopers coach Kungfu Reyes.
Foton looked set to force a fourth set when it took a 14-7 lead but Army, three-time winner in the PSL, recovered to preserve the straight-sets win.
The Lady Troopers snatched the lead after a Genie Sabas quick attack, 24-22, and Honey Tubino ended the match with a power hit.
“Ang binilin ko sa kanila ‘wag kayong magsasawang sumubok kasi eventually tatama at tatama rin ’yan,” Reyes said, adding that he never doubted Army would be able to finish it in three sets.
Joanne Bunag and Rachel Anne Daquis each had eight points for the Lady Troopers, while Nene Bautista added seven.
“Walang panic na nangyari, mas naging composed pa sila during that moment.
Maika Ortiz had 11 points for Foton.
