RC Cola Army bested Petron, 25-19, 25-23, 16-25, 25-20, to join guest team Est Cola at the top in the final round of the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.
Honey Tubino and Jovelyn Gonzaga led the way with 15 and 14 markers, respectively, as the Lady Troopers recovered from a third-set hiccup to wrap up the victory.
“Ito ‘yung turning point, ‘di na pwedeng balikan. Everything counts dito kasi ‘di ka na makakabawi sa susunod,” said Lady Troopers mentor Kungfu Reyes.
“We know the objective, iisa lang naman ang ipinunta natin dito, ang manalo,” he added.
The Lady Troopers exacted revenge on the Tri-Activ Spikers, who beat them in five sets, 25-19, 27-29, 22-25, 25-14, 12-15, during their faceoff in the third round also held at The Arena.
“Dikitan (ang laban) ‘di kami nagpabaya kasi anytime pwede silang bumalik eh. Naging successful naman ang palitan namin ng tao unlike sa first meeting namin,” he said.
RC Cola Army will face F2 Logistics on Friday and Est Cola on Saturday. The team with the best record will be declared champion.
Although Reyes’ focus is set on the Cargo Movers, who lost to the Thais earlier, 14-25, 15-25, 17-25, he's also taking down notes this early to prepare for the heavily favored guest team.
“Sa Est Cola may idea na kaming maglaro,” he said. “Hopefully makabuga kami sa Est Cola.”
Petron skipper Aiza Maizo-Pontillas finished with 21 points, anchored on 19 attacks, while Mina Aganon chipped in 12 in a losing effort.
