COMING off a successful title defense in the UAAP, the La Salle Lady Spikers once again seek a repeat feat when they defend the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference crown as F2 Logistics.
Head coach Ramil De Jesus, however, is playing down the Cargo Movers' chances this conference, as the team has yet to practice at full strength.
The Cargo Movers will make their conference debut on Thursday against Petron, which is being led by former La Salle standout Mika Reyes, at the Filoil Flying V Centre, and their lack of training with a complete lineup could haunt them, warned De Jesus.
"Medyo mabigat kasi hindi pa kami nako-complete sa practice," said De Jesus during Monday's press conference at the Centerstage Mall of Asia. "Since natapos ang UAAP, hindi nakapag-training sa amin 'yung dalawa. So medyo mabigat tapos may laro na kami sa Thursday. We will see."
The two players De Jesus were referring to is Aby Marano and Kim Fajardo, who recently played for Rebisco PSL Manila in the Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship in Kazakhstan. The squad went winless in their campaign to finish dead last among eight teams in the competition.
One thing going for the Cargo Movers is that the team is already intact as they are carrying the bulk of the Lady Spikers squad that won the Season 79 crown against Ateneo. Also part of the F2 squad are other members of the UAAP championship team in Desiree Cheng, Kim Dy, and Dawn Macandili.
"Siguro konting practice pa kasi team na 'yun. Kagagaling lang din sa UAAP. Konting polish lang siguro," said De Jesus.
Last conference, F2 Logistics ruled the PSL All-Filipino tournament after losing just two matches on its way to beating Foton in the best-of-five series.
Still, De Jesus is keeping tabs on the other teams who have prepared immensely for the All-Filipino conference.
"Lahat naman nag-a-eye sa finals. Lahat naman nag-peprepare this conference. So tingin ko, kung sino mas prepared this conference, 'yun ang mananalo," said De Jesus.
