BINAN, Laguna — Rachel Anne Daquis showed the way as Cignal overcame Generika-Ayala, 26-24, 17-25, 25-22, 20-25, 17-15, to regain its winning ways in the 2018 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Alonte Sports Center.
The HD Spikers flirted with disaster as they blew a 2-1 set lead and even trailed in the fifth set, 12-13.
Daquis led the surge as Cignal saved two match points to tie it at 15 before Bang Pineda committed an attack error and got blocked by Shirley Salamagos and AC Masangkay.
“Nakakatuwa hindi sila ngayon bumibigay kami yung naghahabol, which is parang naging mas maganda,” said Cignal coach Edgar Barroga, noting that the players were eager to bounce back from a frustrating setback to Foton three days ago.
“Hindi katulad dati na bumibitaw kami, nawawala na kami. ngayon naiiwan kami pero humahabol kami.”
The HD Spikers were all emotional after the huge win, with Mylene Paat crumbling to the floor while other players and coaches hugged each other.
“Yung panalo na gusto namin makuha ayun napaghirapan nila kaya palagay ko yun yung cause kung bakit emotional sila.”
The HD Spikers improved their win-loss record to 2-2. They face Sta. Lucia (0-3) at 4:15 on Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan Cit.
Generika-Ayala dropped to a 0-3 card and will next take on F2 Logistics (3-0), also on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
