RACHEL Anne Daquis shed tears when she was adjudged Most Valuable Player of the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference on Thursday.
“Tears of joy yun,” Daquis told a handful of sportswriters.
It was well-deserved.
Embracing a supporting role in a Petron team loaded with stars, the former Far Eastern University stalwart found a way to stand out as the Blaze Spikers completed a two-game sweep of Shopinas.com in their best-of-three title series.
The Blaze Spikers claimed their second successive league championship with a 25-17, 22-25, 30-28, 25-17, win over the Clickers in Game Two.
Prior to the game, Daquis saw action at The Arena in San Juan where she powered Army to a thrilling five-set win over Meralco, 25-21, 21-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-9, in the V-League semifinals.
"Naramdaman ko 'yung lahat ng pagod ko worth it," she said. "Hindi ko iniisip na pagod na ako, gusto ko lang maglaro."
"Kapag kasi nag-commit ka sa isang bagay, ibigay mo ang best mo, 'yung all out na lahat," she added. "Doon pumapasok ang commitment at professionalism mo."
Daquis, a many-time MVP in other leagues and currently a member of the women’s team bound to the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, cried as if it was her first time to win the individual honor.
Still, it was Petron's championship that she valued more.
"Mas mahalaga kasi 'yung championship, 'yung as a team ang may award. Itong individual bonus na lang ito," she said.
