RC Cola Army drubbed Standard Insurance Navy, 25-23, 25-19, 25-14, to remain unscathed in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference on Thursday at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The Lady Troopers cruised to their third consecutive win in as many games to join defending champion Petron and F2 Logistics for a three-way tie at the top spot (3-0).
But despite the clean slate, RC Cola Army coach Kungfu Reyes was still looking for a more polished and flawless performance.
“Slow start lang kami pero eventually naging ok na ang lahat. ‘Yung adjustment namin na pilit naming kinukuha, may nae-execute kami pero hindi namin nakukuha. Madami pa rin kaming committed errors na kami mismo ang gumagawa,” said Reyes, whose wards had 15 errors compared to 22 of their foe.
Jovelyn Gonzaga led the way for the Lady Troopers with 13 points, scattered from eight hits, two blocks and three service aces, while Honey Tubino and Jessey de Leon chipped in nine markers apiece and Rachel Anne Daquis added eight points.
Gonzaga and Daquis were the first two players to be named as part of the PSL All Star team that will compete in the FIVB World Club Women’s Championship on October 18-23.
Pau Soriano finished with 11 points for Standard Insurance Navy, which absorbed its second consecutive loss in as many starts.
