BATANGAS CITY - Foton dominated Standard Insurance Navy, 25-11, 25-22, 25-12, to complete the semifinal cast in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at the Batangas City Coliseum on Tuesday.
Jaja Santigao had a game-high 17 points, anchored on 14 spikes, for Foton, which improved to 4-3 win-loss behind Petron (4-2) and RC Cola Army and F2 Logistics which carry an identical 6-0 win-loss record.
The top four teams will now face each other in a round-robin stage to determine the ranking for the semifinals.
“Happy kami kasi sure na kami sa top four, medyo nabawasan na kami ng isang tinik,” said Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon. “Ok naman ang pinakita ng mga bata aside from the second set na medyo may konting relax.
"But ‘yun nga sa third set nakabawi naman sila,” she added.
Coming off a four-set loss to RC Cola Army, Foton responded with back-to-back victories to end the first round on a high note.
“After ng loss sa RC Cola we made it to a point na ‘yung last two games namin we should not leave any stone unturned, kailangan i-diretso namin ‘yan at ang laro namin every game is an important game,” said Ponce de Leon.
Former University of Santo Tomas stalwart Maika Ortiz finished with nine points for the Tornadoes while incoming UST third year spiker EJ Laure added eight as all 12 scoring players fielded in by Foton scored at least a point.
Foton fired from all angles coming up with more points from attacks (40-21). The Tornadoes targeted the Corvettes’ poor reception as they rained down 11 service aces compared to none for their victims.
Standard Insurance Navy fell to 2-5.
